An eastside Portland townhall put on by state Senator Rod Monroe and state Representatives Jeff Reardon and Jessica Vega Pederson falls apart as they stop taking questions from pro-gun supporters, and they waffle on answering the few questions that had been asked. Mr. Monroe and Mr. Reardon are both sponsors of Oregon’s HB 3200, which is a massive gun ban bill.
They go on to take a series of softball questions regarding roads, sidewalks, bridges, and education, before someone else stands up and wants to talk about the proposed gun bans.
After the townhall, a cameraman confronts the three legislators to discuss the real issues and bring up some tough questions. All three of the politicians display their lack of knowledge on guns, light rail, and the horribly expensive Columbia River Crossing bridge project.
Mr. Monroe tells a story of a man threatening people with knives in the capitol building. The man was eventually stopped by police. With Guns.
And in this video, Mr. Reardon says he has not read the gun bill that he has sponsored, and was unaware of several of the provisions in it that folks were concerned with.
And, finally, Jessica Vega Pederson says “We need to check to see if they are guilty”. So much for the saying “innocent until proven guilty”.
